A customer from Sri Lanka left a message on our website, inquiring about using a hydroponic growing system for a future greenhouse project. Further communication with the customer revealed that he currently owns three plots of land and is considering building a greenhouse, primarily to grow local specialty chilies. Since these chilies command high prices in the local market, he not only hopes to meet domestic demand but also plans to export them in the future.
The customer had previously been using traditional growing methods, but this time he wanted to gradually transition to the more efficient and controllable hydroponic methods. Considering Sri Lanka's tropical climate and the customer's growing site, we recommended that he first try using a Dutch bucket system outdoors. Compared to hydroponic tower systems, the Dutch bucket system offers advantages for growing chilies. It provides ample root space, providing ample growth space for plants like tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers, better supporting root development. Furthermore, the Dutch bucket system is more economical in terms of operating costs, with relatively low investment costs and a simple structure, making it suitable for small to medium-sized commercial farms to gradually expand.
We also sent the customer videos of other customers' Dutch bucket greenhouse projects, and he expressed his approval of this solution. After evaluation, he decided to purchase 600 Dutch barrels for pepper cultivation as a first phase of experimentation. As he gained experience in hydroponic cultivation, he planned to gradually expand the scale and eventually introduce more hydroponic systems into the greenhouse.
