Vertical Multi-Layer NFT Hydroponic System for a Commercial Farming Startup in Spain

2025-12-19

A client from Spain is seeking a hydroponic cultivation system suitable for the startup phase of their entrepreneurial team. They aim to achieve stable output and validate commercial viability within limited financial constraints. Considering the team size, site conditions, and future expansion plans, we recommended a multi-tier vertical NFT hydroponic system as the initial phase solution for their project.

The system was installed within the client's workshop, occupying approximately 30 square meters. Featuring a vertical multi-tiered design with four layers, each equipped with six 4-meter-long NFT growing pipes, the system maximizes vertical space utilization within the limited area, significantly increasing planting density per unit area. It integrates automated nutrient solution circulation, pH monitoring, and LED plant growth lights, providing a stable, uniform, and controllable growing environment for leafy greens. This setup reduces manual intervention and simplifies management.

During the initial cultivation cycle, the client primarily grew lettuce and various herb crops. Operational results proved highly promising: overall yield increased by approximately 70% compared to previous traditional methods, while water consumption decreased by about 60%. The NFT nutrient film technique maintains plant roots in an oxygen-rich state, promoting rapid growth and uniformity. The system operates stably with high cleanliness and requires minimal routine maintenance, making it ideal for small-scale commercial testing during startup phases.

The client specifically highlighted in their feedback that the system offers a short return on investment cycle and low operating costs, aligning perfectly with the “validate first, scale later” development rhythm of early-stage agricultural projects. Currently, this vertical NFT hydroponics system has become the core reference solution for their subsequent expansion plans, laying a solid foundation for the team's rapid entry into the modern hydroponic agriculture sector.
