Vertical Hydroponic Strawberry Farming in Portugal Commercial Greenhouse

In commercial greenhouse production, increasing strawberry yield within a limited area while maintaining consistent quality is a key concern for many growers. A client from Portugal planned to build a 500-square-meter greenhouse for large-scale strawberry cultivation. After comparing multiple solutions, the client chose a more efficient vertical hydroponic growing system to improve space utilization and production efficiency.

Based on the project requirements, we recommended the 6P10 hydroponic tower system as a trial solution. This vertical hydroponic tower features a multi-layer design with 10 growing levels and 60 planting sites per unit, allowing a much higher planting density within the same footprint. By using vertical space, the system significantly increases yield per square meter while keeping greenhouse walkways clear and management more efficient. In addition to strawberries, the system is also suitable for leafy greens and herbs, enabling flexible crop planning for future market demand.


To meet the light requirements of strawberry cultivation, the client selected a version equipped with supplemental LED grow lights. In controlled-environment agriculture, lighting plays a critical role in stabilizing yields. During cloudy seasons or low-light periods, the integrated lighting system ensures uniform plant growth, improves fruit quality, and maintains consistent production. This makes the hydroponic strawberry system adaptable to different climates and seasonal variations.


The hydroponic tower uses a recirculating nutrient solution system to deliver water and nutrients directly to plant roots, reducing water consumption and eliminating soil-related diseases. This clean and efficient soilless growing method creates a more controlled production environment. With its compact structure and small footprint, the system is ideal for greenhouses, courtyards, and semi-enclosed spaces where maximizing growing area is essential.


During the testing phase, the client evaluated the system’s structural quality and operational performance and achieved stable planting results. This successful trial provided strong confidence to move forward with the project, leading into the full greenhouse planning stage and preparation for scale-up.


In the next phase of cooperation, we will provide a customized hydroponic greenhouse solution, including hydroponic towers, a centralized irrigation system, and an integrated seedling propagation system. This complete hydroponic production setup connects seedling, cultivation, and harvesting into one streamlined process, transforming the greenhouse into a highly efficient commercial farming unit. The solution supports stable strawberry supply, consistent quality control, and future expansion into additional hydroponic crops.
