Indoor Hydroponic Cultivation Of Vegetables In Tower System: Hydroponic Coriander Chapter

2023-08-02

Coriander is a food that some people love and others hate. For those who like coriander, it has a unique delicious taste and aroma. For those who do not like coriander, it may be an unacceptable pungent taste. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that coriander has certain nutritional value and has certain effects on sweating, relieving external heat, strengthening the spleen, dissipating food, and calming the mind.

Planting coriander using the most popular soilless cultivation techniques can also yield good planting results. Using a tower system for indoor hydroponic coriander cultivation is an effective method.

Here are some steps and precautions:

1. Tower system selection: Choose a tower system suitable for indoor planting, which can consider hydroponic tower systems, vertical NFT systems, etc. Ensure that the tower system has good drainage performance and stability.

2. Substrate selection: In the tower system, use a suitable substrate for hydroponic cultivation to support the roots of coriander. Common choices include rock wool, bubble rock, or castor web. Ensure that the substrate is non-toxic and has good breathability.

3. Preparation of nutrient solution: Prepare appropriate nutrient solution to meet the growth needs of coriander. Nutrient solution should contain an appropriate amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and other essential elements. Follow the formula instructions for the nutrient solution, and regularly test and adjust the pH and EC values of the solution.

4. Planting process:

(1) Place the coriander seeds on a moist substrate and slightly compact them.

(2) Place the planting basket containing coriander seedlings on the planting holes of the tower system, ensuring that each plant has sufficient space to grow.

(3) Add the mixed water of the nutrient solution to the bottom container of the tower system, allowing the substrate to absorb water and provide the nutrients required by the plant.

(4) Ensure that the appropriate water level is maintained in the water tank and regularly check and adjust it.

5. Light management: Coriander needs sufficient light for healthy growth. If the indoor natural light is insufficient, artificial light sources such as LED Grow light can be used to supplement the light. Maintain 8-10 hours of sunlight per day to ensure that plants can obtain sufficient light energy for photosynthesis.

6. Temperature and humidity control: The suitable temperature range for coriander growth is generally between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. Maintaining appropriate temperature and humidity helps promote plant growth. Monitor environmental conditions with a temperature Hygrometer and adjust if necessary.

7. Regular maintenance: Regularly inspect and trim coriander plants to promote growth and prevent overcrowding. Regularly replace nutrient solutions to avoid salt accumulation. At the same time, pay attention to preventing and controlling pests and diseases, and promptly address any possible problems.

Hydroponics is a modern agricultural technology, which can grow vegetables in indoor environment. Through hydroponic cultivation, we can grow fresh coriander ourselves at home, which is not only convenient but also healthy.
